Philosophy

WorldTots LA, the YWCA Child Development program, allows children, in a safe environment, the freedom of movement needed to experiment, question, and deal with their own intellectual curiosity in their own way, at their own pace. Our programs are aligned with the curriculum set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children standards.

Children have individual differences in interest, ability, and past experiences. Carefully planned opportunities for observing, experimenting, talking, and listening serve to widen their horizons. Children are encouraged to develop inquiring minds, sharpen their curiosity, and extend their awareness of people and events in the world through direct experiences that are relevant to their personal developmental stage. The teachers provide information, guidance, and the tools of learning so the child has intentional teaching to set the pace and direction.

The creative curriculum encourages each child to identify with their own culture and to respect the diversity around them under the following are principles:

  • The understanding of one’s own strengths, challenges and preferences
  • The significance of a child’s self-confidence

We value parents and staff who support the integrity and acceptance of each individual. We promote open communication between home and school, a partnership in learning, and the idea that all children and adults continue to work and learn throughout their lives. Above all, the YWCA child care programs are committed to providing a safe, quality, loving and nurturing environment for children and parents.
